A fitting name to the coastal belt running from Port Elizabeth through to East London in the Eastern Cape. Filled with excellent activity opportunities and blue-flag beaches as well as great hiking trails and countless towns and villages, the Sunshine Coast is a dream destination.

Having access to some of South Africa’s most beautiful game farms along this route make it yet another reason to visit and why so many head here during the year. For the most part the Sunshine Coast remains largely unspoiled by commercial industries, retaining its quaint small town and village feel.

Whether tourists need calm and relaxation or adrenalin pumping activities, each town and village provides something unique, catering to families as well as solo travellers. The Sunshine Coast is made up mostly of coastal villages as well as some inland towns as you travel along the Route.

There is no shortage of Accommodation options along the Sunshine Coast. From bed and breakfasts, to hotels, lodges and camping – there is something to suit every taste and budget. An extensive list is covered in our Accommodation section.

The Sunshine Coast Tourism office is situated at Port Alfred and provides a comprehensive list of services to tourists. There is also a satellite office at Kenton-on-Sea.

There are many rivers and estuaries snaking their way through the Sunshine Coast bringing with it wonderful displays of birdlife, safe swimming and watersports in recreational areas. The vegetation along the coast consists of shrubs, creepers and succulents which are endemic to the area. Van Stadens Nature Reserve is popular with birders and the fynbos flower trails is a must-see.

Tourists to the Sunshine Coast are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. The Restaurants offer a range of wonderful dishes from home-grown to seafood and tapas.
